Xavi Hernandez was asked a lot of questions ahead of tomorrow’s game vs Athletic, majorly about Dembele and his future. This is what the boss had to say:
Xavi’s press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game vs Athletic, on Ansu’s best position.
It will depend on the players we have available. He can adapt to the wing or center forward. We will see how he is physically, because we have to use him so as not to lose him anymore. He (Ansu Fati) is a star. He is capable of making a difference in every game. It is a privilege to have him, almost, at 100%.”
Xavi on whether Ousmane Dembélé will be in the squad.
“Tomorrow we will decide. There is also an antigen test first. Tomorrow the club will decide.”
Xavi on Dembélé’s situation.
“He tells me he wants to continue. It’s a question for him. I’ve already been very clear, I can’t be more concise. Either he renews or they look for a way out, there’s no other way. We have to decide as a club. There are two solutions: either he renews or a solution is sought for him to leave the club That’s the decision we’ve made.”
“This case is very complex and we have reached a point where we have to decide. We in a tight situation due to the salary margin. The player should think a bit about the club. He has not disappointed me. It is the last question about Dembele.”
Xavi on the Spanish NT returning to Catalonia.
“It seems good to me. 2004 was the last time and it seems good to me. Today we discussed it with Busi.”
Xavi on the options up front.
“Memphis has some minor discomfort and tomorrow we will decide. Ansu, Jutglà or Ferran Torres can play.”
Xavi on Ferran Torres’ adaptation.
“It has gone very well for him. Perhaps he lacked the rhythm of competition. This week has been very positive, he is 100% recovered from his injury and tomorrow will be important.”
“I’m always optimistic. We suffered from the Covid outbreak, now I’m more positive. We have to improve our results and be more decisive in the areas, on the counterattacks, but I see daily improvement. The sensations are good.”
Xavi on returning to the San Mamés.
“I have great memories. They have treated me very well. I have a fantastic relationship with the club and I have admiration for them. The stadium is sensational. I am delighted to return.”
Xavi on Ronald Araújo’s renewal.
“It’s a priority. He is an extraordinary defender. He has a winning and positive character. It’s important that they reach an agreement. I’m very happy with Ronald’s performance. His commitment and attitude is appreciated.”
Xavi on Ansu and Pedri’s recovery..
“Each case is different. Ansu hasn’t played for longer than Pedri, who is one hundred percent. It’s important us to get them back. They are fundamental pieces for us.”
Xavi on Martin Braithwaite.
“He’s very good. We’ll see if he’s on the list for tomorrow. He is very professional and has cut recovery times. He’s a player who can have minutes and can help us a lot.”
Xavi on the rules set at the club.
“Respect, attitude, work, effort, solidarity, being a family in the dressing room. It’s a matter of order, there’s nothing to say and we’re doing very well. We are obliged to win, but nobody can complain about values.
Xavi on the responsibility of the forwards.
“Decision making is key, we have to be responsible up front so that the opponents don’t generate counterattacks. We have to know when we should attack, when it’s time to dominate or have more pause.”
Xavi on Dani Alves’ stay beyond June.
“It will be a matter of performance and he is doing very well. After losing against Madrid, everything looks darker. Dani is a very important player and will be until the end of the season.”
Xavi on if players already think about the World Cup.
“There is almost a year left for the World Cup, the players don’t think about it now. I don’t see them distracted by it, although it would be legal. The players are up to date and I have no complaints from anyone.”
