Samuel Umtiti took a blow to his right foot in training on Monday and has fractured his fifth metatarsal bone. The player will undergo surgery on Tuesday. The Frenchman is out for three months.
Barça can legally unregister Umtiti from LaLiga and UEFA for the rest of the season as he’ll be out for a long time. In this situation, the player can also request his departure from the club on June 30 provided he doesn’t play 10% matches this season.
Mika Mármol, Arnau Comas and Ramos-Mingo are the candidates to take Umtiti’s place in the first team. Out of these 3, Mika Mármol is the best placed and Xavi likes him. Comas and Ramos Mingo have fewer options. Diego Almeida, of Juvenil A, is also an option.
Mika Mármol: he is the best placed. Xavi likes him. Arnau Comas is another option. Diego Almeida: one of the most highly rated defenders in the lower teams. Excellent with the ball. Can play CB and RB.
The toe fracture and possible absence for around 3 months is a massive blow for Samuel Umtiti. He had the intention of going out on loan this month and playing regularly to try and earn a place in France’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
