Match Review: The Catalans win 2-1, at the Camp Nou against visitors Getafe.

FC Barcelona won 2-1 against Getafe at the Camp Nou to clinch all three points in the league ahead of the International Break. It was a tough game with a lot to unfold throughout the 90 minutes. Sergi Roberto and Memphis got the goals for Barcelona, with Sandro getting one for Getafe. Sergi Roberto is out for 2 weeks with a rib fracture, which would give Nico and Gavi more minutes as Koeman does not favour Riqui Puig to play.

The game started pretty evenly, as both sides attacked each other. Getafe had a couple of chances in the game, but the returning German keeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen kept them out. Carles Alena had a great attempt that was denied by the goalkeeper.
Barcelona opened the scoring with a typical passing game started by Frenkie De Jong. He passed the ball to Alba who ran into the left corner, sending it inside the box. Martin Brathwaite’s dummy found Sergi Roberto open the scoring within five minutes of the start.

Getafe equalized just a few minutes later with former Barca player Sandro getting in on the scoresheet. Getafe played better as they had better chances, they attacked more.
Barcelona was not able to break them down, and they committed a lot of fouls. There were multiple controversial decisions by the referee throughout the game.
Memphis was targeted a lot by the opposition. The Dutchman scored in the 30th minute finding the bottom corner, shooting past 4 Getafe defenders.

Nico Gonzales and Gavi made an appearance after Roberto and Brathwaite went off injured. Gavi made his debut and played really well. Riqui Puig did not feature at all, nor did Yusuf Demir for this game.
Dest came in for Emerson in the second half and played really well as a winger on the right flank. Mingueza was the one playing as the right-back behind the American.

The game was quite nervy throughout, but Barcelona got the three points and can relax going into the international break. The team sits in the fourth spot at the league table as of now.
Ansu Fati is expected to come back after the break, in the game against Bayern, as the Sevilla league game is postponed.

“We must highlight the attitude and the work we have done to win the game. I am very happy with the team. In the second half, we were able to play better but we also have to take the rival into account.

Koeman, on the postponement of Sevilla – Barça…

“I prefer to play, to increase the frequency of matches, although I understand that it is a complicated situation because there are teams that will have some absent players.” #FCB Flag of Netherlands

Koeman, on Memphis’s performance…

“We know he can make a difference, we have to continue on this path.

Koeman talks about Gavi and Nico…

“We have been very happy with them from the first day they trained with us. They are young and are showing their quality. Nico and Gavi helped us hold the ball more. I’m happy with them and to see their personality.”

“They entered a difficult game [today] and it is very important for their confidence. I have no doubts about them, they will be very good.

Koeman, on the remainder of the transfer market…

“The club knows what we want, but I don’t know if we can.”

“We are happy for the three points, the game was complicated but we knew how to keep the score. We suffered a lot, but we won in the end and that’s what’s important…Last year we drew in games like this.”

Koeman talks about Dest’s role/s today…

“Dest is a full-back but he’s played his whole life as a winger. We wanted to take advantage of his quality, his speed. He did some good things.”

Koeman, on the fans whistling at Griezmann…

“I can’t understand why the public whistles a player who plays in our team – like Griezmann. He is an important player for us and he is doing a good job. You can whistle if there’s no attitude. It is it just a game.”

“I’m not asking the club for anything…Considering the squad and the injuries, it was important to have won. There are still a few days of the transfer window, I hope we can do something but it’s complicated otherwise we will continue to work.”

Koeman, on Riqui Puig…

“It’s not good to individualize. The players know what I think, the club too. With that, that’s enough.”
