Match Preview: Sevilla vs FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona travel to Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium to face Sevilla in La Liga on Tuesday to keep their winning momentum going after winning 3-2 at the weekend against Elche. The Catalans are pushing to be fourth in La Liga with a win while Sevilla sit in second place after beating Atletico de Madrid at the weekend. This is a preview of the game on Tuesday.

Xavi Hernandez has had a difficult time as the Barcelona manager as he has had just three wins in the league so far. The latest win came against Elche at the Camp Nou on Saturday, gaining ten points from a possible fifteen in the league.

Gavi and Nico have been the standout players with four goal contributions between them in their last two games. Gavi scored one and assisted two goals while Nico scored two. The duo were on the scoresheet against Elche, wherein Nico came off the bench to score the winner. There are a lot of problems for Barcelona at the back that need to be resolved.

The Blauagrana now face three away games in succession, the first coming against opponents who have replaced them as Real Madrid’s main rivals for the title. Sevilla have not had the best form lately since they also were knocked out of the Champions League, and just managed to stay in the Copa Del Rey as well. Their latest win came at the weekend against former champions Atletico de Madrid, beating them 2-0.

Three victories in a row in the league – against Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid respectively – have created distance between themselves and the chasing pack.

Gonzalo Montiel is expected to miss out through injury, and Jesus Navas is also on the sidelines.

Nemanja Gudelj and Ludwig Augustinsson are both in contention to deputise, while Rafa Mir should return in attack.

Fernando is back from suspension for the hosts.
