After a series of never-ending humiliation in Champions League in the past few years, FC Barcelona will be seeking to clear their name in a respectful manner in Champions League this 2020/21 season.

To start the campaign in an optimistic tone, Koeman will be looking for a win with a good number of goals against this Hungarian side, FC Ferencvaros.

Fc Barcelona vs Ferencvaros

Koeman was appointed as FC Barcelona’s coach after 8-2 humiliation against Bayern in Quarterfinals last season which led to the sacking of then-coach, Quique Setien.

Koeman had started Laliga campaign in a brilliant manner with two wins in the opening fixture. But, they suffered against Sevilla and Getafe as they ended with a draw and a defeat against them respectively.

FC Barcelona is in Group’ G’ alongside Italian giants, Juventus. Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros are the other teams from group G who will compete with Barcelona to get into the knockout stage.

Champions League Group stage team

Barcelona has a solid record at home in the Champions League as they have managed to get into knockout stage in each of the last 16 seasons. They are also unbeaten at home in last 37 home games in Champions League, last 31 games unbeaten in the group stage.

Barcelona also hasn’t lost their opening match of a UEFA Champions League season since 1997/98, when they were beaten 3-2 by Newcastle United.

Ferencvaros is a Hungarian club that competes in Nemzeti Bajnoksag I, the top flight of Hungarian Football. Famously known as “Green Eagles”, Ferencvaros have reached the UCL group stage for the first time in 25 years.

Since then, they have participated in 2004-05 UEFA Cup, 2019-20 Europa League and Champions League in this 2020-21 season.

Ferencvaros is famously known for winning the 1964-65 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup defeating Juventus 1-0 in Turin in Final.

Ferencvaros are undefeated in 12 of their last 13 matches(Champions League) which means, it’s not going to be an easy game for FC Barcelona.

This is the squad chosen by Ronaldo Koeman for the Champions League group stage battle.

Fc Barcelona squad list

Alba and Stegen are still out with injury. Umtiti still has his chronic knee issue. Keeping the exciting fixture coming ahead, El Clasico and Champions League face off against Juventus, Koeman will be looking to make rotations in this game.

Neto will start as the goalkeeper, Pique and Lenglet may start again, or we might see Araujo starting so that either of Pique or Lenglet can rest. Firpo got the green light before Getafe game which means there’s a chance of Firpo making into the starting lineup since Alba is injured.

Dest might be rested, or he might start as RB so that Roberto can get rested. Dest played for whole 90 mins against Getafe so, Koeman will probably give him rest in this game. In the midfield, Pjanic might start alongside either Busquets or De jong in the double pivot, most probably Busquets.

pjanic might debut in Champions League for Fc Barcelona

Coutinho and Fati came on in later mins as a sub against Getafe, so, they will probably be in the starting lineup. Griezmann was poor against Getafe, but, Koeman will likely keep him in the starting lineup again.

Trincao had started training late after returning from international duty which is why he might not feature much in this game, but latest rumours also suggests the probability of Trincao getting his start in this game.

Pedri definitely deserves his mins after showing his quality against Getafe but keeping in mind the tough fixtures ahead; his work might be limited in this game.

Messi will definitely start and will probably play for whole 90 mins despite a tough fixture ahead. We might see some mins of Puig as a substitute considering the rotation to prepare the team well for upcoming schedule.

This is the expected starting lineup of FC Barcelona vs Ferencvaros for the Champions League group stage battle.

Final Prediction:

FC Barcelona’s form in Champions League at home is excellent, especially in the group stage; But, Ferencvaros will be eager to break Barcelona down. I will go with Barcelona 4-1 Ferencvaros.
