Barcelona is set to face Girona for the second friendly of pre-season after securing 3-1 win over Segunda B side Gimnastic Tarragona. The team displayed a decent performance in Koeman’s first game in charge. There were notable changes with likes of Arturo Vidal and Suarez missing out; whole different lineups in each 45 mins. Pedri and Trincao displayed their quality, but still, some problems are unfixed especially in the defence. It will be worth watching the second game under Koeman despite being just a friendly game to learn about how he will choose his tactics and the players.

This is the squad chosen by Koeman, to face Girona at the Cruyff stadium.

Squad List for Barcelona vs Girona, friendly game

Suarez and Vidal missed out again amidst their transfer speculations. Pjanic, Rafinha, Moussa Wague and Todibo were omitted yet again, and Fati is still ruled out due to his hip contusion. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Samuel Umtiti are out due to injuries.

The 23 players called for the friendly game against Girona are Neto, Inaki Pena, Arnau Tenas, Semedo, Pique, Busquets, Griezmann, Messi, Dembele, Coutinho, Lenglet, Alba, Braithwaite, Roberto, De jong, Firpo, Alena, Trincao, Pedri, Puig, Araujo, Cuenca and Konrad.

It is expected that Koeman will go with 4-2-3-1 formation and like in the game vs Nastic, he might do a whole team change in the second half.

Trincao and Pedri are likely to get their mins after displaying their quality in the previous game. Dembele had a decent game netting the opener in his first game after returning from a long term injury and might start again. Messi might start again, and Coutinho has the chance to start again too after displaying a decent performance in the previous game. We have too many options upfront so, it’s quite tricky to know Koeman’s pick. The defence is likely to remain as it is, but if Koeman is going to repeat what he did in the previous game, La Masia players will get their mins in the second half in defence too.

Fans are eager to watch more of Pedri, Trincao and Puig, who are the players Culers are considering as the future of Barcelona.

Suarez is ruled out, so, Griezmann is likely to start again as the central forward. In the game against Nastic, Barcelona had issues in the first half regarding the defence. It would be wise to make some decisive changes regarding the players assigned for defensive duties.

It will be interesting to see if Koeman will confine to the changes he made in the game vs Nastic or will he make some changes after observing the problems and the bright side of that game.

Barcelona 3 Osasuna 1

With the kind of option we have upfront, It is almost sure than Barcelona will score some goals and as the problems at defence still seem to be there, and with our Wall “Stegen” missing out, the risk of conceding is there too.

Hope that there will be some more positives to take from this game; Hope Koeman can show the glimpse of renovated Barcelona somehow. What fans are seeking for is the change, the shift from the darker version of Barcelona in the past few seasons. Hope for the best!
