Barcelona are running against the clock to sell some players before June 30th to balance the books. One such player is Jean Claire-Todibo. They are ready to consider offers for him worth €25M.
Jean Claire-Todibo is one of the players Barcelona are seriously thinking about selling this summer. The club had initially sent him out on loan to Schalke 04 in January, on a season long loan deal with an option to buy. He was outstanding whenever he played and had come under the good books of all Schalke fans. Schalke had decided to buy the player and activate his buy-out clause since they were very impressed by his performances. However, they had to reverse their decision due to the financial impact of the club caused by the pandemic.
Regardless of Schalke’s problems of permanently buying Todibo, Barcelona are still looking to sell him. They believe that selling the player will help them balance the financial books and stabilize things. It would also be easy to offload him since many clubs are behind the player. Everton, Wolves, Roma and Napoli are all interested. As of now, Everton are the only club to have shown a concrete interest in Todibo. They have been eyeing the player since January itself. In May, even Juventus were keen on signing the player. They had even contacted the representatives of the player. The idea was to include him in a player-exchange operation, but Juventus are focusing only on Arthur Melo now.
Wolves were also keen on signing Todibo, but since Barcelona want €25M, a switch seems unlikely. Everton is the most likely option as of now, since they are genuinely interested. They’ve paid Barcelona more than €70M in the past: Gerard Deulofeu (€6M), Andre Gomes (€27.5M), Yerry Mina (€30.2M) and Lucas Digne (€20M). If Everton pay €25M for Todibo, the total spendings will reach €98M.
Todibo’s departure seems to be very likely this summer, since his demand is high. We could receive big news involving his future soon.
More player sales than new arrivals this summer
Barcelona are looking to sell a lot of players this summer to balance the books. Other than Frenkie De Jong, Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati and Lionel Messi, the club will consider offers. It will be tough to sell since no offer has arrived for any of the transfer listed players, other than Arthur from Juventus. For players such as Philippe Coutinho, they are willing to accept loan bids with an option to buy. But for players such as Sergi Roberto, they’re willing to sell permanently. This coming window will be different since clubs have had a hit on their financial affairs, but it will be interesting and we could see plenty of surprises. Barcelona wouldn’t be able to buy big players this summer like Lautaro or Neymar, but will still try and hope to reach an agreement with respective clubs involving cash and players.
