The Catalan Giants have labelled Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez as their primary target this summer and believe that he can replace Suarez in the long term.
Barcelona is going through a pretty rough patch when it comes to the financial aspects of the club. Ever since the pandemic’s arrival, the club has almost lost over 200M due to which they had to minimize their transfer plans for the summer. In February, Barcelona was looking to spend big this summer. They wanted to sell players like Rakitic and Vidal, & buy Neymar, Lautaro Martinez and even Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz.
Now they are forced to re-look into their plans. The pandemic has particularly impacted Neymar’s return. Last Summer, Barcelona were negotiating with PSG for the Brazilian Superstar, but an agreement couldn’t be reached. At the time, Barcelona had decided that they will 100% try to complete his return next summer. However, the pandemic has ruined all their plans for a Neymar return.
This transfer has become very complicated and complex. Not only that, but the terrible relationship between the clubs is also a negative point for Barcelona. PSG have all the rights of the player, and if Barcelona decides to negotiate with them for Neymar, then it will take time for an agreement to be reached. Another reason why Neymar’s return is slowly fading away is because of Lautaro Martinez. Barcelona is also in the search for a striker who can replace Luis Suarez in the long term, and believe that the Inter Striker is capable of filling his shoes.
Talks for Lautaro Martinez have stopped for now since football is back as per usual, but they are expected to resume in August. They already have the player’s “Yes” to join, and only an agreement with Inter is left. Barcelona remains optimistic about landing Lautaro Martinez. If they finalize Lautaro Martinez, the club will not be able to bring back Neymar. Barcelona has been affected the most by the pandemic out of all the top European clubs. Even for completing Lautaro Martinez, Barcelona must first sell players in order to complete his signing.
Even though Neymar hasn’t closed the doors to a return yet, he knows that it will be even more complicated than ever before. But sources have confirmed to ESPN that Neymar has never been happier in Paris than he is right now. For the first time, he feels that Paris is his home. On top of that, RMC’s finest Mohamed Bouhafsi reports that PSG wants to extend Neymar’s contract. Discussions have already started and it’s rather a good discussion, positive and even interesting. It is moving in the right direction.
It is also a fact that Neymar’s relationship with the club, particularly Leonardo has softened and it isn’t as bad as it was before. These coming months will be important for Neymar. If Barcelona doesn’t sign Lautaro Martinez, they can very well turn their attention towards Neymar. But it won’t be easy since Barcelona is not financially great right now.
