FC Barcelona has spent more than €618.5 million since Neymar’s left but still struggled to fill the position, and in the process to fill the place, they have signed many players. Most of them can be marked as an experiment and to be a more specific failed experiment. Dembélé, Paulinho, Coutinho, Malcom, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and you can name a few more it’s a no brainer, and the latest player who has suffered from this experiment is Arthur. Swapping Arthur with Pjanic raises few questions on the transfer policy of the Barca board, when most of the starting team is in the early 30s or mid-30s selling a 23-year-old midfielder and bringing a 30-year-old midfielder raises questions on the vision of Barca board because when we talk about Barca greats in recent time we all name Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Messi and many another they all became a legend of the game because La Masia was trusted the players were trusted they were given a chance to play to perform which is not the situation right now; either La Masia players are transferred out, or they do not get the playing time. Denis Suarez, Rafinha, Carles Alena are just a few who suffered from the policy of the board.
THE CURIOUS CASE OF OUSMANE DEMBÉLÉ
Ousmane Dembélé was singed the first significant transfer after Neymar’s exit for a fee of €105m – with €40m in add-ons. Still, instead of filling Neymar’s shoe, he is finding it difficult to fill his boots since his arrival, he has been injured nine times missing out more than 500 days. He is still injured and recovering, and according to ‘AS,’ he is taking longer than expected to return.
THE SAGA OF PHILIPPE COUTINHO
Philippe Coutinho was another big-money move made by Barcelona, and he did start his Barca carrier with a bang. He scored goals and provided assists, to be an essential presence. He notched eight goals in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey, scoring in the semifinals against Valencia and in the final against Sevilla. He provided five assists in La Liga and another in the Cup. He impressed everyone after his arrival in January, he showed the spark, and fans were delighted, but when the new season started, he seemed unsettled. He was inconsistent, and fans began booing him, and later, he was loaned out, and now Barca is desperate to sell him.
FROM DREAM TO NIGHTMARE
Malcolm and Arthur are two players openly saying that FC Barcelona is their dream, but it didn’t take long when it became their nightmare. Malcolm ditched Roma for Barcelona, but the Brazilian made a total of six league starts for Barcelona in the 2018/19 campaign, amassing 608 minutes of football for Ernesto Valverde’s side and just after one year he was sold to Zenit St. Petersburg and he was the victim of racism too while in Russia.
No Barca fan can forget that car interview of Arthur when he told about his dream he is an excellent midfielder with a high passing accuracy we all know, we all labeled him as the heir of Xavi. However, the Barca board had some different plans swapping a 23-year-old with a 30-year-old most of us are still figuring out why this move happened?
Now the thing is when this board will think for long term success instead of short term hits? We are trying to get players for the same position, but still, we are not able to find the right piece of the missing puzzle. Barca board should trust La Masia players and should give them more and more chances because that’s what makes FC Barcelona different from others.
