We saw an exciting and jaw-dropping match at the Balaidos as Celta stunned Barcelona with Iago Aspas with a late freekick equalizer. With this, Barcelona move 1 point clear of Madrid whereas the Los Blancos still have a match in their hand to take the lead or lose points. All that said, let’s analyze the performances of our players and look at the Barca player ratings vs Celta Vigo.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen(6.9/10):
The German finally conceded after keeping a clean sheet for 5 consecutive la liga games. Unlike the previous matches, Ter Stegen was busy between the sticks to stop every shot from Iago Aspas and Smolov. Infact, he almost conceded a goal when his passing error almost led to a goal. Despite that, Ter Stegen wasnt looking nervous despite constant pressure during the second half and in the final minutes of the game, he saved a 1 on 1 shot.

Nelson Semedo(6.7/10):
Like i said during the last match’s player ratings, Semedo needs to hold on to the wide area to provide width to the team. Again, he was inverting in the halfspace. Due to that either Vidal or Messi had to play on the far right. But on the positive note, he was involved in the second goal of Suarez by retrieving the ball from opposition which Messi collected and gave an assist to Suarez. The Portuguese is showing consistency but need to improve on his end product and crossing

Gerard Pique(7.0/10):
Pique has been incredible and consistent since the league resumed. Today he showed why he can’t be easily replaced at the back. Especially when he was facing a 1v1 or 2v1 situation against the Celta forwards. The way he positioned himself and blocked the pass penetration was something only he can pull off. He had 2 clearance, 2 vital shots blocked, 2 interception and 1 tackle to his name. Complete soldier at the back.

Samuel Umtiti(6.5/10):
To give Lenglet rest, Umtiti was called in. Gone are the days when the Frenchman was rupturing every opposition on his way. Tonight, he was constantly getting caught out of position and showed weak positioning. When Setien initially arrived at Barcelona, Umtiti was largely benefitted from the 3 back system but since his injury, he has not gained that form. To stay at the club, he needs to bring his form back and avoid injuries.

Jordi Alba(6.8/10):
Alba has been a constant provider for the team but Celta was largely successful in stopping him. With the help of Riqui Puig, he was getting the needed width on the left but the Celta fullback was successful in stopping his crosses and letting him run into the channel. Maybe a bad day in the office.

Arturo Vidal(6.7/10):
Vidal is definitely overused by Setien and today the signs were very clear. The Chilean wasnt able to get into proper positions and was constantly pressed by the opposition as soon as he got the ball. Main reason was the opposition always pressed him hard whenever he tried to recieve the ball between the lines. This strategy clearly worked for Celta. But Vidal did have 95.3% accurate passes. Still, Setien needs to give him rest and not start him in every match.

Ivan Rakitic(7.4/10):
Rakitic’s performance has suddenly increased since the league resumed and today he had a very important role to play. Since Busquets was suspended, Rakitic played the anchor role(i.e DM) and the Croat was perfect in his role. He was giving vertical passes and was circulating the ball really well. His ability to give long balls was also used to provide the fullbacks and wingers. With such performances, he is restoring the faith of cules.

Riqui Puig(7.6/10):
After so much fan demand, Riqui Puig finally started for Barcelona. It’s safe to say that Puig is the future of Barcelona midfield. From his passes to his dribbling despite the press was just too good. He was giving Alba the freedom on the left by helping him in combination play and the team with his positional sense. Off the ball, Puig wasn’t willing to let the opposition dribble past and was constantly pressing them until they lost the ball. Keep in mind, he is just 20 years old.

Riqui Puig fared well in Our Player Ratings Today
Ansu Fati(6.6/10):
Fati wasnt decisive like he was in the previous matches he played. Despite playing for 69 minutes, it wasn’t the type of performance which the fans expected. Though he was making rotations constantly but he wasn’t able to break the Celta’s line of defence with his tricks and dribbling in tight spaces. Maybe a bad day in the office for Young Fati.

Luis Suarez(7.8/10):
What a comeback from the Uruguayan. Despite all the sticks he is receiving recently, he scored both the goals for Barcelona tonight. Him combining with Messi truly makes a deadly combo. His first goal was a simple header but his second goal was his typical style of scoring. This can actually boost him for the important and decisive match against Atletico Madrid on the next matchday.

Lionel Messi(8.4/10):
Another day, another Messi type performance from the G.O.A.T. There are truly no words to describe this man week in and out. Today he assisted twice to his bestfriend Suarez despite the rigid Celta defense making it hard to even penetrate a single pass from their block. His first assist was just astonishing. He got a freekick just outside the box and Celta covered the whole net with blockers. But Messi using his eagle type vision, spotted Suarez free who tucked in the header inside the net.

Antoine Griezmann (N.A)
Junior Firpo (N.A)
Arthur Melo (N.A)
All three of them played less than 10 minutes.

Martin Braithwaite (6.2/10):
He played for 20 minutes but was not at all useful. Despite he was carded for elbowing Kevin from Celta that too twice. He hardly had 6 touches but lost possession thrice.
