Messi wants to leave Barca after what happened in Lisbon. It was beyond what everyone imagined, it was annihilation, assassination and complete destruction of Football club Barcelona.
After having major heartbreak in the past two years, culers weren’t much optimistic but As Pique said, they hit the rock bottom. A lot of things need to change, starting from Presidency and Coach to showing doors to some of the heavyweights of the dressing room.
Messi wanting to leave Barca could be a major warning to Bartomeu’s position in the club.
THE 8-2 EMBARRASSMENT
No one has the answer to how Barca ended up with that scoreline in the Champions League. Culers were prepared, prepared for the worst, but no one had anticipated this worse of the worst scenario.
Before that night, no team had scored five goals against Barcelona in a single Champions League match during the competition’s history.
That scoreline, 8-2 equalled the biggest aggregate win ever in a Champions League quarter-final, which was recorded when Real Madrid beat Cypriot side Apoel in 2017. This was the worst defeat of Lionel Messi’s career, Barcelona’s biggest since 1946.
Pique said after the game about how embarrassing this was and how the club needs to make changes for them to rise again.

“Shameful is the word, nobody is untouchable. If new blood has to come and change this dynamic, I will be the first to pack up and leave. Now we have hit rock bottom. This is not the first, second, or third time that this has happened to us. I am in pain, we all are. We can’t compete like that, the club needs changes, not just players, I don’t want to point out anyone,” he said after the game.
BARTOMEU TO TAKE DECISIONS
“It has been a very, very tough night. I am sorry for the Barca fans and members, for the players … For everyone,” Bartomeu told Movistar+. “We were not the club that we represent, I am so sorry.”
“There are some decisions that we had already made, and others that we will make over the next few days. Announcements will be made from next week, we need to make decisions after things have calmed down.
“Today is a day for reflection. Tomorrow we will try to raise our fans’ spirits following such a heavy defeat.
“It was a devastating result. I congratulate Bayern, they played a great game and deserved to go to the semi-finals. We were not up to the occasion, and we can only apologise to the members and fans.”
CURRENT SITUATION AT BARCA
Reliable sources have already confirmed that Setien is sacked and we only await official confirmation.

Among Koeman, Pochettino and Xavi, Koeman seems to be closer to joining Barcelona. Abidal is closer to his discontinuity at Barcelona. Barcelona has reportedly put most of their squad up for sale following the massive embarrassment in the Champions League stage.
Only four first-team players are thought to be safe from the reckoning. Lionel Messi, Clement Lenglet, Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will be kept at all costs.
Barcelona’s young stars will also be kept by club president Josep Bartomeu, including academy graduates Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig. The biggest issue currently is that Messi wants to leave and it’s up to Bartomeu if he’s able to make desirable changes to convince Messi.
MESSI WANTS TO LEAVE
Various reliable sources from Spain has claimed that Messi has told the club that he wants to leave Barca this summer. Fans speculate that Messi is trying to give a message to the board for the changes; which includes the dismissal of Bartomeu as well.
Speculations suggest that Messi might stay provided that there are changes like he wants, from the core to the basics. But, to be brutally honest, the rumours of him leaving are stronger than ever.
We can now wait and see if Messi is convinced to stay. Barcelona’s prospective presidential candidate Victor Font had called for current president Josep Bartomeu to resign immediately after the 8-2 humiliation.
If there are changes like Bartomeu resigning or early election in November (As rumours suggest), There are chances of Messi staying at Barcelona. But, Messi wants to leave as of now, and Bartomeu has to decide.
Messi has said it again and again about how there are issues in this management. This 8-2 defeat was the final hit, after which Messi wants to leave, but maybe he’s trying to compel Bartomeu to make appropriate changes. If not, Lionel Messi is definitely unlikely to continue at Barcelona.
